Kurt KARL Chief Economist, Head ER&C - Managing Director Group Strategy, SWISS Re Group Strategy, SWISS Re Kurt E. Karl is a Managing Director and head of Swiss Re’s Economic Research and Consulting. As such, he is the editor of sigma, Swiss Re’s insurance industry research publication. In addition, he supports Swiss Re’s strategic planning and provides internal consulting on products and economic risks. Before becoming the overall head of ER&C, Dr. Karl was for 11 years the head of the North American unit of ER&C. Prior to joining Swiss Re, Dr. Karl was chief international economist at WEFA, Inc., an economic forecasting firm located near Philadelphia. He has a B.A. from the University of Oregon, a M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. from Princeton University. Ted GREGORY is operations manager of Property Claim Services® (PCS®). He is responsible for daily operations of the PCS team, including catastrophe identification; loss estimate development; and all PCS bulletins, severe weather summaries, and storm and event tracking reports. Additionally, he coordinates PCS product and website enhancements, administers PCS quality control, and oversees customer service.

Ted  has more than 16 years of experience in the insurance industry, including extensive work in property and catastrophe planning and response. Most recently, he served at USAA, where he spent 16 years handling various duties, including the management of all levels of property claims.

Shane LATCHMAN is an Assistant Vice President in the Research and Client Services groups in AIR’s London office. The London research group’s responsibilities include model evaluation, liaising with clients, documentation, and working on bespoke projects. The Client Services group is responsible for interfacing with AIR clients and prospects on a wide range of matters including training, communication, and project work and answering client queries. He also plays a key role in some of AIR’s Touchstone initiatives, such as the integration of third-party data and models, expanding AIR’s capabilities in marine and energy, the Next Generation Financial Module and the development of future multi-modeling/blending capabilities. Shane is a member of catastrophe modeling and actuarial industry groups and interacts heavily with rating agencies and regulators on topics including Solvency II. After receiving a National Scholarship from Trinidad and Tobago, Shane studied Actuarial Science at City University and received a B.Sc. with honors. Assisted by a Cambridge Commonwealth Trust grant, he earned a Masters in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge.
